Our top tips for working from home

The world is currently finding a new way to adapt to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and businesses are having to swiftly change their way of working to keep up with market requirements. As such, we have decided to depart from our normal article topics to provide an informational piece more likely to apply to you in the current circumstances.

Here are our top tips to stay successful whilst working from home:-

1.       Keep a routine – If you usually get up, have a shower and get dressed then you must do just that. Keeping a routine is so important to help you adjust to the work from home culture. Set an alarm on your phone to remind you when you should be taking a break and take them regularly to keep momentum going. Burning yourself out won't help, ensure you have sufficient downtime. Just because your office is at home, it doesn't mean you need to work 24/7.

2.       Organise your working space – We don’t know how long the lockdown will last so you need to prepare for the long haul. You can’t work to your best if you are not comfortable, making a functional space for working in your home will mean you can focus on what you need to achieve during the working day and separate yourself from work at night.

3.       Start making calls – Working from home can be extremely isolating, so pick up the phone and speak to your colleagues/customers / clients etc. It’s an opportunity to protect your mental wellbeing and the receiver will certainly appreciate the personal touch.

4.       Still enjoy the outside – Of course this only applies if you are not self-isolating. The government are encouraging us to go out once a day for some form of exercise. Always wanted to start couch to 5k? Now is the time. The benefits of exercise on mental health are vast, just ensure when you are out to keep social distancing to ensure you and others stay safe.

Our thoughts go out to all the Key Workers at this time, all we can do is stick to the government guidance to relieve the pressure on them. We appreciate you may be ready to climb the walls but stick with it and stay at home, we are all in this together!
